Favourite Episode: "The Origin of Donnie"
A classic Nickelodeon show, also made by the same creators as Rugrats. After re-watching The Wild Thornberrys though, I felt that this was the better show of the two. There is also the crossover movie, Rugrats Go Wild, but does have a bit stronger of a focus on the Rugrats than Eliza. Perhaps it is because it deals with an older cast, or its relation to Nature & Animals. The show being about wildlife filmmakers is something that seemed to be a product of the time; with Nigel being a parody of Steve Irwin, there were a lot of other nature programs on for kids at this time (Animal Planet, Zoboomafoo, etc.).
As I touched on earlier, I loved that this show deals closely with not only animals from different areas, but the people and their cultures. I appreciate when shows have lessons about different cultures, and even moreso when it is targeted for a younger audience. I was aware that Donnie was voiced by Flea, the bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers, but surprised that the grandma was voiced by Betty White! There is also Christopher Masterson, who plays francis in Malcolm in the Middle, as the Pop Star Shane G. and tons of guest stars.
I quite enjoyed watching The Wild Thornberrys and would recommend anyone who likes Nicktoons to pick it up if you have not watched it, or barely remember it. I went with "The Origin of Donnie" as the favourite episode for this watchthrough Donnie is one of my favourite characters, and this was a series of episodes that I did not remember. It is a very touching episode explaining the,,, origin of Donnie.
